Selecting the Optimal EASY-CHANGE® Riser
It is important that you conduct a final check of sufficient clearance, even bearing and optimal balance with the rider in the saddle. Assessing the balance and fit of your saddle is made easier without a saddlecloth, however this may not always be possible. Caution must always be taken to ensure that your horse is comfortable and at ease with being ridden without a saddlecloth before the rider mounts. Then observe horse and rider in light work to ensure both are relaxed, comfortable and moving freely.
Should your saddle require further adjustments to your saddle, select the optimal combination of EASY-CHANGE® Risers to achieve sufficient clearance, even bearing and perfect balance.
It is important to note that when adding risers within a flocked saddle panel you are effectively altering the shape of the tree above the panel to mirror your horse’s back conformation.
Saddles with the CAIR® Cushion System are different, you can be confident that the dynamic nature of air provides even contact with your horse’s confirmation at all times. Adding risers in a saddle with the CAIR® Cushion System simply increases the overall depth where required in the front or rear for clearance or balance.
Centre risers are only recommended in instances of a sway back when fitting saddles with the CAIR® Cushion System.
If the pommel is too high, the rider’s weight will be directed further back in the seat, tipping the rider behind the centre of balance.
If the pommel is too low, the rider’s weight will be directed forward, tipping the rider in front of the centre of balance.
NB – Saddle stability and the comfort of your horse is improved by having the saddle as close contact as possible, whilst maintaining sufficient clearance of your horse’s spine. Centre risers are not recommended for saddles with the CAIR® Cushion System, unless compensating for evidence of a sway back. In rare instances where Flock saddles require greater than an 8mm riser in the centre position, you may layer both 4mm and 8mm risers for a total depth of 12mm in the centre.
* Pony Saddles can only be adjusted up to 8mm
